Floppy Kitty

     It has become a tradition now that every year I make my sister a new stuffed cat for Christmas. What better time to start your holiday crafting then in July? Here is my newest kitty to add to my sister's collection.


 


Supplies:
     5.50 mm crochet hook
     2 colors of worsted weight yarn; 1 color for the body and 1 for the accents
     * I used Red Heart Super Saver yarn in Coffee and Warm Brown for my project
     stitch marker
     safety eyes, if desired
     stuffing material
     yarn needle
     scissors


Abbreviations Used:
     Rnd(s) --- round(s)
     ch --- chain
     sc --- single crochet
     st/sts --- stitch/stitches
     sc2tog --- single crochet 2 stitches together
     ftlp(s) --- front loop(s)

Notes:
     --- Be sure to move the stitch marker up as you complete each round.
     --- In the pattern the main color is Coffee; Warm Brown is the accent color.
     --- The accent color will be used fro facial features, and creating 2-color paws or a 2-color tail, if desired.


~Pattern~

Body & Head:
     Rnd 1: with the main color ch 2; 6sc in second ch from hook - 6sts
     Rnd 2: 2sc in each st around - 12sts
     Rnd 3: 2sc in first st, 1sc in next st; repeat to end - 18sts
     Rnd 4: 2sc in first st, 1sc in next 2sts; repeat to end - 24sts
     Rnd 5: 2sc in first st, 1sc in next 3sts; repeat to end - 30sts
     Rnd 6: 2sc in first st, 1sc in next 4sts; repeat to end - 36sts
     Rnds 7-18: 1sc in each st around - 36sts
     Rnd 19: sc2tog, 1sc in next 4sts; repeat to end - 30sts
     Rnd 20: sc2tog, 1sc in next 3sts; repeat to end - 24sts
     Rnd 21: sc2tog, 1sc in next 2sts; repeat to end - 18sts
     Rnd 22: 2sc in first st, 1sc in next 2sts; repeat to end - 24sts
     Rnd 23: 2sc in first st, 1sc in next 3sts; repeat to end - 30sts
     Rnd 24: 2sc in first st, 1sc in next 4sts; repeat to end - 36sts
     Rnds 25-29: 1sc in each st around - 36sts
     Rnd 30: sc2tog, 1sc in next 4sts; repeat to end - 30sts
     Rnd 31: sc2tog, 1sc in next 3sts; repeat to end - 24sts
     Rnd 32: sc2tog, 1sc in next 2sts; repeat to end - 18sts
     Rnd 33: sc2tog, 1sc in next st; repeat to end - 12sts
     Stuff body firmly; begin stuffing the head.
     Insert safety eyes, if desired.
     Rnd 34: sc2tog; repeat to end - 6sts
     Fasten off; leave a tail for sewing.
     Finish firmly stuffing the head.
     Using the tail of yarn, sew the opening closed.
     Tie off and trim all loose threads.

Legs (make 4):
     Rnd 1: with the accent color, ch 2; 6sc in second ch from hook
     * If not making 2-color "paws", just use the main color Rnds 1-16.
     Rnd 2: 2sc in each st around - 12sts
     Rnd 3: 2sc in first st, 1sc in next st; repeat to end - 18sts
     Rnd 4: going through the ftlps only, 1sc in each ftlp around - 18sts
     Rnd 5: going through both loops, 1sc in first 7sts, sc2tog, sc2tog, 1sc in last 7sts - 16sts
     Rnd 6: 1sc in first 6sts, sc2tog, sc2tog, 1sc in last 6sts - 14sts
     Change to the main color if making 2-color "paws".
     Rnds 7-16: 1sc in each st around - 14sts
     Fasten off; leave a long tail for sewing.

Ears (make 2):
     Rnd 1: using the main color, ch 2; 3sc in second ch from hook - 3sts
     Rnd 2: 1sc in each st around - 3sts
     Rnd 3: 2sc in each st around - 6sts
     Rnd 4: 1sc in each st around - 6sts
     Rnd 5: 2sc in first st, 1sc in next st; repeat to end - 9sts
     Rnd 6: 1s in each st around - 9sts
     Fasten off, leave a long tail for sewing.

Tail:
     * If creating a 2-color tail, use the accent color Rnds 1-7; then change to the main color Rnds 8-29.
     Rnd 1: using the main color, ch 2; 4sc in second ch from hook - 4sts
     Rnd 2: 2sc in each st around - 8sts
     Rnds 3-29: 1sc in each st around - 8sts
     Pinch the open end of the tail closed. Stitch 1sc through both sides to seal - 4sts
     Fasten off; leave a long tail for sewing.

Assembly & Finishing:
     Firmly stuff the legs; position and sew them to the bottom of the body.
     Sew the tail to the back of the body.
     Firmly stuff the ears; sew them to the top of the head.
     Using the accent color, sew facial features onto the face.
     Tie off and trim all loose threads.
